Having had enough frustration for one night while trying to get Rorin to bed on time and having to deal with his terrible-twos tantrum, Avannia had finally given up and left her son in the care of his father, telling them she would be back as soon as everything was sane again in their family quarters. In truth, all she really wanted to do was have a drink and some time to herself in Galic Pesos. She certainly needed the breathing room in order to clear her head of all the built-up negative emotions. Sitting at the bar, she found it was somewhat soothing to "listen in" to all the background emotions quietly humming throughout the room, most of them subdued in these evening hours.
Ava already felt much more relaxed as she finished her first drink, but now she felt the need to vent. She glanced around the room, wondering who she could talk to at this hour.

Jekcor is there with her own drink, a rather slimming black dress on, green jewelry and pins in her hair, she looks all gussied up for some reason, in fact. She's sipping on her bitter Cardassian ale, and lounging on a coach, reading something on a foreign device.

Ava spotted Jekcor on the couch, doing a double-take when she noticed her unusually fancy getup. Well, she'd seen quite a few unusual things on this ship, so this was fairly normal in comparison, she supposed. Picking up a new drink, she wandered over to Jekor and asked in a friendly tone, "Where's the party?"

"Mm? Oh. No. Well, I dressed up for a video call back home." she says with a smile that seems to indicate that there was something more to it in some way. "Just to look good."

Oooh, now THIS was good. "Must have been quite a special chat," Ava said with a warm grin, leaning on the opposite corner of the couch with her chin propped in one hand. "Or a special person, hmm?"

The Cardassian smirks back at her. "Just have to make someone miss me. Or just jealous of my assignment." She says, posing, in her overly elegant dress. "Wouldn't you want to be me?"

"Absolutely," Ava laughed softly. "Although, I'm not sure the green would look very good on me..." she added, tucking a strand of her purple hair behind her ear. She sighed, her thoughts straying for a moment before saying with a gossip-driven eyebrow raise, "Not to pry or anything, but who could such a person be that they take video calls with you but don't miss you?"

She eyes the girl a moment. "Oh, well, you know how it goes, you get a job someone thinks they should have... or... " she flicks a hair out of her face, "...they want to call to show you how well THEY are doing. That sort of thing.'
She crosses her legs, showing off her scales on the side of the thigh. "Of course, who doesn't miss me back home. It's a long list."

"Well, if they didn't before, I'm sure they do now," Ava said, giving her a wink. "They have every right to be jealous. ... /My/ friends back home, on the other hand..." she continued with another sigh, "They're probably wondering, what happened to her??"

"No, I just haven't had the time," Ava shrugged. "Too busy. Between work and Rorin, that is." She gave a half-hearted smile, taking another sip from her glass. "Sometimes I wonder if raising a family on a starship wasn't the best decision..."

She waves her hand, trying to remember, but not knowing the semi-unimportant woman she'd barely met well enough to.

"Oh, of course, he goes with her sometimes, but he's a bit young to be learning much more than the standard alphabet," Ava said, turning it over in her head for a moment. "He's still very young, you know." She turned her gaze back to Jekcor. "Neither I nor Virgil really planned for this. We weren't even thinking about heredity. We're just a couple of science officers."

Ava tilted her head, trying to decode Jekcor's intent. "All I'm saying is that neither of us planned on having children. At least not so soon, and not on a starship, at the very least." She paused, thinking about how a family home awaited them back on Earth, and of her own family on Betazed. "Do you think it would be better if we didn't keep Rorin here? Not out in space, where he knows hardly anything about his heritage?"
