Gregori Oramov strode into the science labs, with the hiss of the doors sliding open a head of him. He looked at the assembled crew in front of him and smiled, clapping his hands together once.
"Hello everyone. For those who do not know me. I am Lieutenant Commander Gregori Oramov, Chief Science Officer aboard the USS Quincy. So essentially I am your boss. While we are on duty and on comms we will use the official designations so you will call me Sir or Oramov. When we are off duty you can call me Gregori or Greg if you so wish. And if you have any problems please some to me and I will see if I can help."
Oramov smiled; "Now with the official items out of the way. I want to congratulate you on being Science officer. I remember when I was in my first year at the acadamy I had a lecturer say to me what a science officer was for. A science officer is there to dream up new ideas, to solve problems under preasure, and to give your captain and crew every possible solution and option when dealing with a situation. We are the people who seek out new ways of thinking, to develop and expand the thinking of others. What we do is explore the universe and learn all it has to offer, we seek out new life, new technology and we do it, so that we are able to make the voyages of so many more people that are to follow us can lean on what we discover, our ideas can save lives and help us boldly go forward into a bright tomorrow."
Oramov looked about the room again and made sure he looked at every member of his team. "I have lists of all your names of course but that is rather cold and impassive. Please if you want to introduce yourselves to the rest of your team mates. And I will open the floor to any questions?"

After a pause for questions (there were none, perhaps the greenhorns were shy), Avannia stepped forward, graciously volunteering herself as the first introduction. She looked around at the rest of the science team as she spoke, recognizing some of the faces she had long been working with, and appreciating some new ones. "I'm Ensign Avannia Deloi," she smiled brightly. "My home planet is Betazed, and I specialize in biological anthropology and behavioral ecology. I joined Starfleet because I was searching for a kind of adventure that I couldn't find anywhere else. Although we will work hard, I look forward to sharing that adventure with the rest of you." She nodded towards Virgil, deciding to go ahead and introduce him, too. "This is my husband, Lt. Virgil Audax, and quite a fine officer if you ask me," she winked. "You might see our young son Rorin about the ship as well. I can promise you that he'll be kept away from messing with the lab experiments... but I can't say the same for Lt. Audax," she giggled.

There is totally someone there that is not really supposed to be. Uniform was the wrong color. Plus blue skin wasn't very... Subtle. Plus she was stick her nose into some of the experiments.

Gregori flicked his gaze, to the blue woman. "Another thing you will learn about our department is that we have to work closely with other departments. If there is a problem with the shields or phaisers we work with tactical. A strange illness? We go to medical and if we have something to do with the engines we go to engineering. So why don't you introduce yourself to my team. And I would not touch that one if I were you. It is an prototype for a repellent beam to push aside asteroids. I haven't got the kinks out of it yet. You might end up in a wall. Which I guess should be a general note to everyone. Don't touch anything unless you know what it does. It is safer that way."

"Oooh." She seems excited, "I can stay?!' She usually doesn't get to stay when she breaks into the security meetings.

"As long as you behave. Yes. I try to keep an open mind here. As long as Commander Isadore does not need you, you can stay. Duty first, but I will never attempt to prevent curiosity in any form. Welcome to the science department, Ensign." Gregori smiled.

"Well then you will understand what we are talking about. Passion is what drives everyone in this room. Everyone in star fleet in a way. The passion to understand, the passion to explore, the passion to learn, the passion to see the unknown. To be out on the edge and find something truely new and exciting. I myself have always wanted to be on the cutting edge. To wander the quadrants seeking new life. The universe is dangerous and beautiful." Oramov was addressing the room, "We are here to explore. I will be honest we won't be doing much in regards to regular duties. Unlike engineering or medical, we are about finding answers in dire circumstances. We assist other departments or we keep ourselves busy with our own projects. Currently we are tasked to understand a series of Relics. To know how they work, where they come from. Everything. To look back in order to look forward to use a poetic turn of phraise." Oramov chuckled. "Anyone else have any questions?"

Zixx raises her hand and shakes it around making grunting noises and trying to hold her hand up higher and flailing desperately. In short, the famous "pickmepickme" maneuver.

Oramov shrugged, "Go on Ensign,"

Oramov held up his hand. "Breath. I don't want to carry you to sickbay for oxygen starvation. To answer your questions in order. We do not think any new relics have been created, but we do not know for certain where they come from. We are in the process of studying old relics that we have in our possession before handing them over to star fleet under strict supervision. Yes we hope they are contained. I don't think being magnetic is a question. Touching the relics is decided on a case by case basis on express promission from myself and the captain. And the cargo vault is where we are keeping them so yes we would have to go down there but only in test conditions. The relics are things to be respected remember that first and foremost."

"Yes, they are fun. They are an exciting opportunity to study long lost cultures and strange new technologies. But as always I say that you have to treat them with respect. As you would with any unknown device or element." Oramov said.

Jekcor enters then, swaying inward like she owns the place. "I hope you mean respect and prodding. Or you won't get much of anywhere."
